about
Time to the Brim is the final single ahead of the upcoming psychedelic, synthpop magnum opus ‘Here is One I Know You Know’ from beloved Aussie cult singer-songwriter SEJA. It is a squelchy, danceable, super-catchy pop song that culminates in a glorious kaleidoscopic synth v guitar freakout.
“The song was written around a modular synth loop I made which was slightly out of tune from standard tuning. When I tried to tune it to the real world, it didn't sound quite right, so I ended up tuning every instrument I subsequently played on the track (many synths, several guitars) to the loop.”
Seja says she had initially programmed drums for the song, but the song didn’t really come alive until George Browning (Velociraptor) played live drums and percussion over the track. Especially adding to the feverish psych-out at the end of the track.
lyrics
Another day out here a let the motor run
I’m a knife and I’m a sword I’m a shotgun
I got time to the brim I can waste it
but my minds too dim and I hate it
c’mon come closer now
Dying to remember all the things that I forgot
Flying synapses are they in my mind or not
I got space to the brim I can waste it
but this place is grim and I hate it
Tell me am I fooling you or are you fooling me?
The only thing i know is the earth beneath my feet
I’m feeling more and more like a book nobody reads
just a little stuck in the tangle of the weeds
c’mon come closer now
I pay attention to the things that matter
oh yeah oh yeah
I listen closely and I mind my manners
oh yeah
